Google Adsense screws me over.
Apparently, they don't like me clicking on my own ads to see if their content is something I want on my blog.
And they don't like me using the search box on this blog as my primary search engine.
Because they have disabled my adsense account. No warning beforehand. No chance to appeal.
I have emailed them with my objections to this, and if it is not reactivated within a week, I am considering abandoning the whole blogging thing, because Blogger is a subsidiary of Google, and I don't want to be associated with a business that takes such unreasonable action in bad faith.

And one more thing -- it is awfully suspicious that they disabled my account RIGHT BEFORE I earned my first $100, which would have been my first check.
John,
Check out MarketBanker -- same kind of deal as AdSense. I haven't earned a commission check yet, so I can't vouch for their reliability. But don't give up on the blogging, please.

Are you sure that's why they suspended you? Check your junkmail folder. I had an issue with my SSI header file which included my adsense code ending up on an error page. They sent me three messages and I found them all in my junkmail folder AFTER my ads stopped working and I went searching for a reason. My junkmail folder on Gmail no less, which makes very little sense - apparently Google considers itself a spammer. Anyway, I corrected the issue and was back up in about 12 hours and they did not remove any earnings from my account.
Just curious, did you really not know that clicking ads on your own site was a violation of the contract with Google?
Tom:
I clear out my bulk mail every day, and there was no warning beforehand.
As for me clicking on my own ads, the problem is that that is the only way to monitor whether or not I agree with who's advertising on my blog. While some advertisers put their name on the ad, with others (BlogIt, for one) you don't know who it is until you click on the ad.
I probably (no, not probably, DEFINITELY) have different standards than Google when it comes to what is acceptable advertising on my blog. Google, for instance, sees no problem letting John Kerry advertise his socialist agenda here. I have a major problem with that. How am I supposed to do quality control if I have no way of monitoring the quality?
I have decided, at least for a while, that if Google doesn't reactivate my account in the next week, I'm going to quit trying to make money off the blog. I find it confining when it comes to what I want to write. I will keep doing the blog, I guess.
John
Those google boys are unforgiving when it comes to violations of their terms, and too many clicks on your own ads will definitely get their attention.
I'll second the vote for marketbanker. While blogHOUSTON (where I'm using it) doesn't have much traffic yet, it's an easy ad system to implement, and very flexible. We'll see if it produces much in the way of revenue. I'm not that hopeful actually about such things in general, but ya never know.
