Yes, a ban would be a good thing. Just not a ban on pit bulls.

Maybe there should be a ban on parents letting their five-year-olds roam the neighborhood unsupervised instead.

And the punishment for violating the ban should involve feeding the parents reproductive organs to pit bulls. Sort of a preemptive strike against future 5 year olds wandering unsupervised.
