Randy Jones (the cowboy) was certainly gay. In fact, he recently married his longtime partner.
And here's a quote from Felipe Rose (the Indian): "I live an openly gay life. All my friends and family and music colleagues around the world know. I have a life mate, and everything is dandy."
I don't know about the rest, but I'm pretty sure the leatherman joined the group by answering an HELP WANTED ad seeking "a gay singer with a thick moustache."
